I know the following sounds cliche, but it is true– time does fly when you’re having fun. After two great months at TBWA\WH, my time with the agency has come to an end. However, these two months have gone beyond what agency life is.
While working full-time at TBWA, I was also working on a project for Disney Dreamers Academy. Within two weeks, my team and I were able to develop a social media campaign to reach African American families and youth and inspire them to be part of their #be100 campaign while also driving attribution to Walt Disney World as a brand that supports the growth of minority communities. Four groups will be selected to present our campaign idea during our last week as MAIP fellows.
Throughout all these weeks, MAIP also hosted weekly sessions with excellent guests from Google, Meta, Omnicom Health Group, and other agencies and companies, in which the fellows were provided with insights into the industry. Amongst my favorite topics were work-life balance, the importance of diversity, and salary negotiation, just to name a few.
MAIP also knows that it could be difficult for some folks to navigate and adapt to the speed of the advertising world. So I got paired with not one but two amazing coaches who were there to answer any questions and guided me through anything I needed help with to strive in my agency. My two incredibly bright coaches, Chau and Johnny, went above and beyond to ensure I got the most out of my internship. Whenever I needed another pair of eyes to check my work or simply some inspiration from the work they’ve done for their agencies, they’d say yes without hesitation.
In advertising terms, I would describe my MAIP experience as an integrated or omnichannel experience. It was holistic, relevant, personalized, and had every component that would make an experiential campaign get the most engagement, retention rates, and, hey, even the best awards– why not! As I’m looking back to reflect on my experience, I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to amplify my skills and knowledge and to have a community I can always be a part of.
